Contact Lens Wearers

  • For Contact Lens Wearers: Discontinue Soft Contact Lenses at least three days prior to your consultation appointment with Dr. Dale. Discontinue Rigid Contact Lenses 4 weeks prior to your consultation appointment with Dr. Dale. For Rigid Contact Lens wearers, you may need to be observed for a period of several weeks (or rarely months) to ensure your cornea has returned to its natural shape.

Medications

  • You can continue to take your regular medications and supplements as you normally would, unless our doctors have told you otherwise. The exception: If you take antihistamines (cold/allergy medicine), discontinue them 3 days prior to surgery.

Lid Scrubs

  • Perform this procedure twice a day starting 3 days prior to surgery.
  • Place a hot washcloth over both eyes for 5 minutes.
  • Gently clean the eyelids and eyelashes with the Ocusoft Plus wipes that are provided in your eye care kit.
  • Take care to gently scrub at the base of the eyelashes, as this is a place where bacteria are harbored. You do not need to rinse after using the Ocusoft Plus wipes.

Makeup

  • Discontinue wearing eye makeup for 3 days prior to surgery

Prescription Eye Drops

  • If you take Restasis prescription eye drops you will continue them until the time of surgery.

Artificial Tears

  • If you use artificial tears, begin using the preservative free artificial tears in individual dropperettes, instead of tears in a multi-dose bottle. A box of these will be included in your eye care kit, and you will continue to use them frequently after surgery for at least the first few months.

Fill Prescriptions

  • Fill prescriptions at least 5 days prior to surgery. Sometimes a pharmacy will need 1-2 days to obtain a medication if they don’t have it in stock.
  • When you are taking more than one eye drop, separate the drops from each other by five minutes.
  • You will take these drops on the day of your surgery, and continue them following surgery.

Prescriptions for LASIK patients

  • Begin one day prior to procedure
    • Ofloxacin eye drops (antibiotic): one drop four times daily in surgical eye(s)
    • Prednisolone eye drops (steroid): one drop four times daily in surgical eye(s)

Prescriptions for PRK patients

  • Begin Vitamin C one week prior
  • Begin all else one day prior to procedure:
    • 1000mg of Vitamin C by mouth once daily (you will continue to take this for four months after surgery).
    • Ofloxacin eye drops (antibiotic): one drop four times daily in surgical eye(s)
    • Prednisolone eye drops (steroid): one drop two times daily in surgical eye(s)
    • Prolensa one drop once daily (antiinflammatory): one drop once daily
    • Ketoralac (a.k.a. toradol) 10 mg by mouth three times daily.
      • You will continue this medication for a total of five days.
      • If you have a history of acid reflux or ulcers, also take an over-the-counter acid inhibiting medication like Prilosec (Omeprazole) each day that you take the ketoralac.
