Can my cataract grow back after surgery?

Once the cloudy lens is replaced with the new clear lens, it can’t grow back. However some patients can develop secondary clouding of the clear membrane capsule that holds the new lens implant. This can occur months or even years after surgery and can usually be cleared up with an outpatient laser treatment, called a YAG capsulotomy. This laser treatment is quick and painless, and is a medical laser treatment (e.g. something that is submitted for coverage by your medical insurance, should the procedure become necessary). Some degree of cloudiness is seen commonly, but the laser treatment is only recommended if your vision is affected.
